Another Great Auction from Doncaster Auction Centre, including Jewellery, Collectibles, Vintage, Retro, A Real Eclectic Mix
A pair of Chinese necklaces. The first is a long strand of uniformly sized, polished, spherical dark green beads, presumed jadeite, consistent with examples from the Qing Dynasty. The beads are opaque to semi-translucent and simply strung with minimal visible metal findings. The second necklace is an ornate, gold-colored necklace featuring numerous intricately carved red beads of various shapes, including spherical, barrel, and lantern forms. The central large barrel bead is carved with a visible Chinese character, ‘福’ (fú), translating to ‘fortune’ or ‘good luck’. The red material is presumed carved cinnabar or coral, complemented by yellow-colored metal components, likely gold-plated or base metal. This necklace is consistent with Chinese decorative arts, potentially from the Qing Dynasty or early 20th Century. No visible hallmarks or maker’s marks are discernible on either item.
