A Victorian silver-toned metal brooch constructed from four British fourpence coins (groats)And Threepence arranged in a cruciform pattern. The coins are joined by small spherical connectors, with a simple pin and catch mechanism affixed to the reverse. The obverse of two coins depicts a seated Britannia figure holding a trident and shield, inscribed “FOUR PENCE” and dated “1849” and “1846” respectively. The other two coins display a profile portrait of Queen Victoria, encircled by the Latin inscription “VICTORIA D:G: BRITANNIAR: REG: F:D:” (Victoria, by the Grace of God, Queen of the Britains, Defender of the Faith). The reverse of the coins, where visible, shows worn numeral designs and partial dates, such as “18” and “88”.
