Another Great Auction from Doncaster Auction Centre, including Jewellery, Collectibles, Vintage, Retro, A Real Eclectic Mix
This lot comprises a set of four commemorative items, likely produced for the 1937 Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. The set includes a clear glass tumbler, two small cut glass dishes, and a larger cut glass plate or coaster. The tumbler is decorated with etched or frosted designs depicting King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, along with the text “CORONA 1937”, “R G” (Royal Cypher GR VI), and partially visible “LONG MAY THEY” (likely “Long May They Reign”). The two smaller dishes and the larger plate feature geometric cut glass patterns. All pieces are fitted with sterling silver rims, confirmed by visible hallmarks including the lion passant, an anchor assay mark for Birmingham, a date letter ‘L’ (corresponding to 1935/36, consistent with the 1937 coronation event), and a maker’s mark ‘G&CL’.
