A freestanding, glazed ceramic relief plaque or tablet depicting a religious scene on its obverse. The front features the Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child interacting with a kneeling monastic figure, surrounded by other haloed figures, all rendered in low relief within an arched niche and colored with cream, yellow, and blue glazes. Below this scene, incised text reads “ECCE SIGNUM SALUTIS,” which translates to “Behold the sign of salvation.” The reverse features an incised Jerusalem cross motif above the text “LAND OF CARMEL AYLESFORD.”
