A vintage Mabel Lucie Attwell Celluloid Wipeable Shopping List Board, dating to the mid-20th century, likely the 1950s. The front features a colorful lithograph by Mabel Lucie Attwell, depicting a young girl and a cat in a kitchen setting. The illustration is accompanied by the text: “SHOPPING WILL BE EASY IF YOU WILL INSIST THAT, WHEN YOU’RE RUNNING SHORT OF THINGS, THEY’RE PUT DOWN ON THIS LIST. ‘TWILL SAVE A LOT OF TIME IN TOWN IF EVERYTHING IS JOTTED DOWN!” and the prominent title “HOUSEHOLD WANTS.” A partially visible “THE STORES CO.” is depicted on a package within the illustration. The reverse is marked “VALETTE WASHABLE SERIES,” “VALENTINE & SONS, LTD.,” and “MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN.” The item includes an original “CHINAGRAPH No. 713 MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN” pencil, tethered by a red string. Constructed of enameled or lithographed metal with a felt backing and a paper pad insert, the entire piece is preserved in its original clear plastic packaging.
