Another Great Auction from Doncaster Auction Centre, including Jewellery, Collectibles, Vintage, Retro, A Real Eclectic Mix
A diverse group of decorative items comprising two circular, shallow, drum-like objects, each featuring light wood rims, natural hide or parchment heads, and brown leather carrying loops; one head bears a white sticker with the handwritten number “3699.” Also included are two large folding fans: one with a yellow paper or silk leaf, adorned with extensive black Chinese calligraphy, translated in part as “Cold river snow shadow,” “Mountains bright, waters clear,” and including lines from Tang dynasty poems such as “Moon rises, startling mountain birds” and “Sun rises, river flowers redder than fire”; the other large fan features a green fabric or paper leaf hand-painted with a landscape scene depicting houses and trees by a body of water. Completing the assortment are six smaller folding fans, which include examples with black paper leaves featuring white calligraphy, plain cream or tan paper leaves, and white paper leaves, some of which exhibit lace-like cutouts or decorative printed patterns, all mounted on light wooden frames.
