A cast metal sculpture depicting a recumbent lion, rendered in a realistic, classical style, resting on a rectangular base. The lion’s head is turned to the right with its mouth slightly open, and it features a prominent mane. Inscribed on the front of the base are the words “AVX DEFENSEVRS DE BELFORT 1870-71” (To the Defenders of Belfort 1870-71), referencing a historical period. The reverse side of the base bears the marking “PG N° 117.”
