Another New Auction
A collection of fourteen British One Shilling coins, King George VI issue. The reverse design features a crowned lion standing on a royal crown, flanked by the royal cypher ‘G VI R’ and a small crowned shield. The inscription ‘FID DEF IND IMP’ (Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India) encircles the top, with ‘ONE SHILLING’ and the date across the bottom. The collection includes coins dated 1937, 1938, 1939, 1944, 1946, 1947, and 1948. Coins dated up to and including 1946 are composed of .500 fine silver, while those dated 1947 and 1948 are cupro-nickel, reflecting the change in British coinage composition. Comprising fourteen examples in total.
