Another New Auction
A lot comprising two framed and glazed reproduction railway travel posters and three hand-coloured natural history prints. The left poster, signed “HERBERT TRINGHAM,” depicts a bustling harbour scene and advertises “ST. IVES – CORNWALL” and its surrounds for the “GWR” (Great Western Railway), prominently displaying “1939” and “GLORIOUS SANDS IDEAL BATHING.” The right poster, signed “T. Aftley” (likely T. S. Attlee), illustrates a train on a viaduct in a picturesque valley, promoting “DERBYSHIRE” with the “BRITISH RAILWAYS” logo and the slogan “See Britain by Train,” also mentioning “Mortal Dale in the Peak District National Park.” Both posters are housed in dark wood frames. The third item comprises three individual hand-coloured prints, presented together on a single mount under clear plastic, depicting “THE ICHNEUMON,” “THE STRIPED HYÆNA,” and “THE LEOPARD.” An attached label identifies these as “Hand coloured prints from the ‘Quadrupeds’ circa 1836.”
