ANOTHER GREAT
A collection of six varied antique or vintage metal tokens and tags, predominantly crafted from brass or bronze, exhibiting differing patinas and surface wear. These items are identified as market tokens, likely originating from a market in Stratford, UK. The shapes include a heart, an oval, an irregular cloud-like form with a suspension hole, a circular token, a decorative shield-like piece, and a rectangular tag with two holes. Inscriptions across the pieces repeatedly feature “STRATFORD” and “MARKET” (or “MKT”), alongside merchant names such as “A. SHAW”, “W. PEACOCK”, “S.W. BENNETT”, and “F. ELLISON” (with “F8”). One ornate token displays a large “6” with a superscript “d” (denoting “six pence”) and the number “19”, set within a radial design. The rectangular tag is stamped “15 K 28”.
