Prominent hallmarks on the underside include the maker’s mark “J D & S”, the lion passant for sterling silver, the Edinburgh castle town mark, and a date letter, alongside production numbers “X288” and “A3559”. Further engraved text reads “JAMES, RITCHIE & SON”, “TO H.R.H. THE PRINCE OF WALES”, and “EDINBURGH”, indicating that James, Ritchie & Son were retailers or commissioners holding a Royal Warrant to H.R.H. The Prince of Wales.
