A late 19th Century French Rococo Revival mantel clock by Japy Freres. The ornate case is crafted from gilded bronze, featuring elaborate scrolling foliage, a finial, and standing on four scrolling feet. The body is decorated with red and dark patterned champlevé enamel. The circular dial has a gilded, heavily chased center with individual white enamel or porcelain cartouches displaying black Roman numerals (I-XII) for the hours, and features ornate black hands. The brass mechanism on the reverse bears a prominent circular medallion engraved with “J. JAPY FRÈRES & CIE. GRANDE MÉD. D’HONNEUR” along with a crown and star motif, and the numbers “4” and “11” stamped below.
