ANOTHER GREAT
An antique bronze or brass mortar and pestle set. The mortar features a flared rim, two simple loop handles, and a raised decorative cartouche on its body depicting a rampant mythical beast (possibly a dragon or griffin) within a shield, surmounted by a crown or coronet. The base of the mortar has faint incised text that appears to read “MESJA”. The accompanying pestle is a matching plain, turned form. Both pieces exhibit an uneven, dark patination with some surface texture consistent with age and casting, suggesting an antique or vintage period.
