ANOTHER GREAT
A vintage marine binnacle compass by OBSERVATOR SWEDEN, housed within a robust, gimbaled assembly. The main compass body and outer degree ring are crafted from heavily patinated brass, while the gimbal ring is formed from a dark, oxidized metal, likely iron or steel. The compass card, visible beneath a dirty and somewhat obscured glass cover, displays cardinal and intercardinal points using German abbreviations: N (Nord/North), O (Ost/East), Z (Süd/South), W (West), NO (Nordost/Northeast), ZO (Südost/Southeast), ZW (Südwest/Southwest), and NW (Nordwest/Northwest). The card is inscribed “OBSERVATOR SWEDEN 500.4” and bears a serial or model number “563.2/25960/4”.
