ANOTHER GREAT
A pair of glazed ceramic bookends, each sculpted to represent a stylized bird or dove form. They feature a variegated, iridescent glaze transitioning from mottled dark blue-black and grey tones on the upper parts to rich amber and brown hues towards the base, suggesting a ‘flambé’ or ‘lava’ type finish. The unglazed undersides reveal a terracotta-colored clay body and each features a circular firing hole. Similar examples, depicting pigeons, have been attributed to Oscar Waldmann (1856-1937).
