A pair of brass fireside trivets. The rectangular trivet, consistent with market descriptions of a ‘fireside kettle rest’ or ‘pot stand’, features an openwork design with two opposing birds amidst scrolling foliage, supported by four ornate scrolled feet, commonly referred to as ball and claw feet. The circular trivet displays a central openwork motif of a stylized horse, appearing to have a single horn suggestive of a unicorn, standing beneath a tree, encircled by a radial foliate border, and supported by three straight feet. Both items exhibit surface wear and discoloration consistent with age and use. No manufacturer’s marks or text are visible.
