Another Great Auction
A Charles I Pontefract Besieged Silver Shilling, dated 1648, fashioned from silver-toned metal in a diamond-shaped (lozenge) planchet. The obverse features a stylized three-towered castle design, with the Roman numerals “XII” visible to the right and Arabic numerals “40” below; other faint, illegible characters are also present. The reverse displays a large, ornate “C” with a smaller “R” adjacent or within it, surrounded by partial Latin-script lettering along the rim, notably “P.TER.O” and “DVM”.
