Another Great Auction
An Anglo-Saxon AR Penny, identified as heavy coinage from the Kingdom of Mercia, issued under King Offa (757-796). This coin was struck at the Canterbury mint by the moneyer Babba, circa 792/3-796. The irregularly shaped, roughly circular coin is composed of silver or a silver alloy. The obverse prominently features the text “RABBA” in capital letters horizontally across its center, flanked above and below by stylized linear decorations and bordered by a dotted rim. The reverse displays a central circular motif composed of raised dots, surrounded by various abstract or geometric symbols, and similarly encircled by a dotted rim.
