Another Great Auction
A Charles I, Newark Besieged Silver Halfcrown, dated 1645. This diamond-shaped metallic coin or token exhibits a silver-toned surface with significant dark tarnishing and wear. One side is engraved with the abbreviated text ‘OBS.’ above ‘NEWARK’ and the date ‘1645’, all bordered by a series of dots. The opposing side features a stylized crown above the initials ‘CR’ and the Roman numerals ‘XXX’, also framed by a dotted border. The strike appears somewhat crude, consistent with the indicated period, and shows clear signs of age, handling, and minor surface abrasions, though all major inscriptions and devices remain legible.
