Another Great Auction
A Carolingian Denier of Charles, Emperor. This hammered silver-colored coin features on its obverse a stylized, front-facing bust wearing a crown or headgear and robes, encircled by a beaded inner border. The legible Latin inscription reads “KAROLVS IMP AVG” (Charles, Emperor, Augustus). The reverse displays a central cross-like design, possibly a cross potent or monogram, with curved terminals, also within a beaded inner circle and an outer, less distinct legend. The style and imagery are consistent with medieval European coinage.
