An Antique French Metal Altar Crucifix, likely cast from a patinated bronze or brass alloy. The cross features a detailed corpus of Christ, with flared, decorative terminals and a radiating sunburst motif above, where the titulus is inscribed ‘INRI’ (Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum – Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews). The cross is supported by an elaborately turned stem which incorporates a spherical element encircled by a coiled serpent. The multi-tiered base is highly decorative, featuring scalloped edges, a berry-like texture, and relief elements at the bottom, including a skull and crossbones, symbolic of Golgotha. The item exhibits an aged, dark patina.
