An antique Chinese brass and enamel box, featuring polychrome enamel decoration in a cloisonné or champlevé style. The lid depicts two figures in an allegorical or historical scene amidst scrolling foliage, with additional blue enamel on the sides. Accompanied by a miniature gilt metal-cased book, with a central raised cross on a cream-colored inlay, possibly resin or mother-of-pearl, on the front cover. Its interior pages are titled “THE NEW TESTAMENT OUR LORD AND SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST” and state “Printed and Published by Bourne of Harlesden Ltd, 189 High Street, Harlesden, London, N.W.10” and “Printed in England.”
