Another Great Auction
A set of 10 ceramic plates by Gibson & Sons Ltd, Burslem, England, in the ‘Orange Willow’ pattern. Each plate features a multi-color transferware decoration in shades of orange, brown, gold, and black on a white ground. The Chinoiserie landscape depicts pagodas, bridges, trees, and birds, bordered by a geometric and floral design, and rimmed in gold. The plates vary in size. The reverse of one plate bears a printed maker’s mark featuring a crown motif above a banner reading “GIBSON & SONS LTD”, with “BURSLEM ENGLAND” below, and the pattern name “‘WILLOW'”. An orange handwritten number “1138” is also visible.
