A framed needlework sampler featuring black cross-stitch embroidery on a natural-toned, likely linen or canvas fabric. The stitched composition includes multiple rows of uppercase and lowercase English alphabet letters, Arabic numerals 3 through 12, and various decorative borders. The prominent date “1833” is stitched at the bottom. It is presented in an ornate, possibly carved or gessoed and gilded/bronzed wooden frame, decorated with scrolling acanthus leaf motifs.
