This small, square, hinged decorative box is constructed from brass with a dark wood interior lining. The exterior is extensively adorned with deeply etched or engraved intricate floral and foliate motifs, where the recessed background areas are filled with a contrasting dark reddish-brown enamel or pigment. The symmetrical, scrolling design covers the entire lid and all visible sides, indicative of traditional Indian or Middle Eastern craftsmanship. No visible text or maker’s marks are present.
