Another Great Auction 6th November
A Cambodian Khmer elephant form lime pot. This globular ceramic vessel is predominantly dark brown/black with reddish-brown highlights, supported by three short feet and featuring a wide, flared mouth. A prominent elephant head projects from one side with a small human figure, possibly a mahout, seated on its head. An opposing figural element, appearing to be a creature with grasping limbs, is attached near the rim, potentially serving as a handle or decorative lug. The body is decorated with incised zig-zag patterns and applied rope-like bands. The dark finish, possibly a burnished slip or glaze, shows areas of wear revealing the lighter reddish-brown body material.
