Buyer's premium:

A pair of Anglo-Indian porcupine quill boxes, comprising one larger and one smaller rectangular lidded box. The construction features dark wood frames and dividers, with surfaces adorned by numerous closely set cylindrical segments of natural porcupine quills, showcasing varying shades of light to dark brown. Small circular light-colored inlays, consistent with bone or ivory, punctuate the dark wood framing. The interior of the larger box is lined with purple fabric, while the smaller box’s interior is dark wood. The underside of one box is inscribed by hand with “Colombo 10. 9 – 1900,” indicating an origin from Colombo, Sri Lanka, and a date of September 10, 1900.
