This rectangular wooden box, identified as a Japanese folk art puzzle dispenser box, features a sliding top compartment and a single drawer below. Constructed from stained wood, it presents a distinctive aesthetic, incorporating a brass-toned metal handle on the sliding lid. The lid’s exterior bears an indiscernible engraved or relief scene, while its interior reveals a painted red flower and green leaf design. The drawer front is distinguished by a stylized carved pull resembling a tribal or folk art face, and a geometric patterned border adorns the box’s top perimeter. The drawer’s interior contains simple wooden dividers, with a small, unreadable white label present. The item dates to the early to mid-20th century.
