Another Great Auction 6th November
A set of six vintage musical score volumes, approximately octavo-sized, dating to the late 19th century. This dating is supported by an internal “LEEDS MUSICAL FESTIVAL, 1892” program. Five of the volumes feature dark covers, possibly leather or buckram, with gilt-stamped titles including “THE SPECTRE’S BRIDE,” “MESSIAH,” “TANNHÄUSER,” “BOHEMIAN GIRL,” and “SAMSON,” each bordered by a single gilt line. One volume remains unlabeled on its cover. Internal pages contain printed musical notation and text in both English and German. One work is identified as “Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang” (“Hymn of Praise”) from “Novello’s 8vo. Edition.” The festival program details performances of works by Handel and Mendelssohn.
