Another Great Auction 20th November
A collection of four British World War II military medals, comprising two circular silver-tone medals and two bronze star-shaped campaign medals, accompanied by an ‘O. H. M. S.’ postal box. The collection includes a Defence Medal with a green, red, and orange striped ribbon, and a War Medal 1939-1945 with a red, white, and blue striped ribbon. Also present are a 1939-1945 Star with a red, dark blue, and light blue striped ribbon, and an Air Crew Europe Star with a light blue, red, and dark blue striped ribbon. All circular medals bear an effigy of King George VI and are inscribed “GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX F:D:IND:IMP.” (George VI, by the Grace of God, King of all Britain, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India). The star-shaped medals feature the monogram “GR VI” surmounted by a crown and the text “THE STAR”. The associated cardboard postal box is marked “O. H. M. S.” (On His Majesty’s Service) and stamped “OFFICIAL PAID ENFIELD”, addressed to “Mr. F. F. Watts” in Stainforth, Nr. Doncaster.
