Another Great Auction 20th November
A pair of figurative sculptures by Karana L. John, identified in the market as the ‘Collett Collector Edition Prima Ballerina’ series, dated 2004. Each sculpture depicts a young female ballet dancer in a realistic style, standing on a rectangular base resembling wooden planks. They are crafted from cold-cast bronze or bronzed resin with a dark patinated finish, accented by selective painted details in shades of blue and purple on their attire. The figure on the left holds a mug and wears a shawl or towel, with a duffel bag at her feet. The figure on the right, with hands on hips, features a partially wrapped skirt and a pointe shoe resting nearby. Both bases bear the copyright ‘© 2004’, and the right figure’s base is clearly signed ‘Karana L. John’, with the left likely bearing the same artist’s signature partially obscured.
