Another Great Auction 20th November
A pair of stylized bronze sculptures of waterfowl in flight, crafted by Tōshōdō. One sculpture features a green verdigris-like patina, while the other exhibits a darker brownish-green patination. Both are mounted on individual rectangular polished marble bases, which display white, grey, and reddish-brown veining. The objects are presented with a fitted, light-colored wooden storage box (kiribako). The box bears Japanese inscriptions, which translate to “置物” (Okimono – decorative object/ornament), “青銅” (Seidō – bronze), and “刀手堂造” (Tōshōdō zō – Made by Tōshōdō). While described as Okimono, the form and style are consistent with Art Deco bookends of the 1930s.
Each approximately 6 x 5 inches.
