Another Great Auction 11th December
A group of seven African Makonde carved wooden figures and statuettes. The collection includes a prominent central dark wood sculpture depicting multiple stacked human and animal forms, a taller standing figure with an elongated headdress and metal collar, a reclining figure appearing to read, a seated figure on a base, a standing woman carrying a basket on her head, a carved bird, and a foot-shaped carving with a bowl-like depression. The pieces exhibit an ethnographic or folk art aesthetic, with varying wood tones ranging from light to very dark brown or black, and visible grain and carved textures. No discernible text, signatures, or maker’s marks are visible on any of the items.
