Another Great Auction 11th December
A pair of Kalaga embroidered wall hangings, likely of Indian or South Asian origin. Each piece is crafted from a dark red velvet-like fabric, extensively hand-embellished with beadwork, gold and silver thread embroidery, mirror-work, and sequins. The central motif on both textiles is a stylized, ornately adorned elephant executed predominantly in white, gold, and brown beads. The larger hanging presents a central elephant flanked by four smaller corner elephants, while the smaller piece displays a single, larger central elephant within an elaborate circular and scrolling border. Both textiles are finished with fabric hanging loops along the top edge.
The larger hanging measures 54 x 40 inches.
The smaller hanging measures 38 x 41 inches.
