Another Great Auction 11th December
A Mid-Century Oriental octagonal floor lamp, circa 1960s, constructed from dark-stained wood with extensive openwork carving. The design features intricate, curvilinear, and organic fretwork motifs, characteristic of Southeast Asian or ethnic decorative arts. Each panel of the octagonal form is backed by an internal light-diffusing material, identified as a light-colored, tightly woven natural fiber such as rattan or bamboo. A black electrical cord is visible extending from the base, confirming its function as a lamp. While often marketed as a ‘Hexagonal Stand’ or ‘Decorative Podium’ in the period, this example is clearly designed as a functional light source and is octagonal in form.
