A pair of related sculptures confirmed to be crafted from Coal, depicting scenes of 19th or early 20th-century domestic life. The material provides a dense, matte black finish to both pieces. The first sculpture is a figural group showing a woman assisting a child in a large tub, likely for a bath. This piece is the tallest 6 inches and is mounted on a circular base detailed with a dog, a mat, a boot, and a closed book. A small, rectangular plaque is affixed to the front base, but the inscription is obscured. The second sculpture is a rectangular relief panel depicting an interior kitchen scene, centered on a fireplace or stove with a simulated coal fire. The relief includes various domestic implements such as pots, pans, a kettle, and a washboard, rendered in high detail.
