A vintage figural still bank, executed in painted chalk, characteristic of Black Americana folk art styles from the early 20th century. The sculpture depicts a young Black boy seated upon a textured base, holding a shell or bowl across his lap inscribed with the word “MERCY.” The figure is painted black with red lips, wearing a mint green tunic and a yellow/gold scarf. The base is dark green with simple painted floral motifs and rests on a rectangular black pedestal. The piece functions as a still bank, having a coin slot visible near the neck/collar line. No manufacturer or foundry markings are visible.
