A single wheel-thrown studio pottery bottle vase by Janet Upton of Slindon Pottery, Sussex. The piece is executed in reddish-brown stoneware, featuring a classic gourd shape defined by a bulbous body and a tall, narrow neck. The surface is covered in a glossy glaze that highlights the horizontal throwing lines. Decoration consists of an abstract, speckled band around the shoulder featuring sweeping foliate motifs rendered in black, dark green, and creamy yellow glazes. The base bears the impressed initials J U and the impressed text Slindon Pottery, supplemented by an affixed paper label confirming the maker and location.
