Another Great Auction 16th December
A pair of carved organic material fragments, likely bone , executed in an ethnographic style consistent with 20th-century souvenir or tribal art. Each piece is curved and tapers significantly toward a pointed tip. The wider, hollow base of each fragment is carved to depict the highly stylized head of an alligator or crocodile, featuring jagged teeth and defined eyes. The body of the carving is heavily segmented with geometric, scale-like carvings along its convex curve. The style and material are comparable to documented Luango or Kongo figurative carvings fashioned from teeth.
Length (approximate): 12.5 cm (5 inches)
