A pair of cylindrical metal whistles, identified by stampings as the ‘Metropolitan’ police pattern, manufactured by Hudson & Co., Birmingham. The construction appears to be nickel-plated brass. The whistle on the left is stamped “METROPOLITAN PATENT” and “HUDSON & CO / [ADDRESS] / BIRMINGHAM.” The whistle on the right is stamped “METROPOLITAN” and “HUDSON & CO / 138 ST. HOCKLEY / BIRMINGHAM.” Both items feature suspension rings at the top, with one retaining an additional brass split ring. These whistles are consistent with late 19th or early 20th-century English police or traffic equipment.
