A rectangular hinged box constructed primarily of brass or bronze, likely dating to the World War I era (WWI). The box features a central shield-shaped lock escutcheon on the front face, prominently engraved with the date 1918. A small, ornate key is inserted into the keyhole. The hinged lid is adorned with a copper shield-shaped appliqué bearing faint etched or engraved interlocking initials or a monogram. The interior compartment is lined with a dark blue fabric, possibly velvet or velour. The style suggests it may have functioned as a trench art or commemorative piece.
