Identified through web consensus as a Hnefatafl or Viking Game set. The lot includes 34 carved game pieces and a fabric game board, housed in a burgundy-covered cardboard storage box lined with purple felt. The fabric board is a cream/natural textile printed with a black or dark blue stylized knotwork border surrounding a grid pattern, featuring decorative geometric motifs within the squares. The 34 game pieces are divided into two opposing sides: 24 dark brown carved pieces (likely wood, seed, or nut), mostly spherical or capsule-shaped; and 10 light-colored pieces (possibly bone, ivory, or resin). The light-colored pieces include eight spherical or carved capsule pieces, one standing figural piece (the King or Hnefi), and one fragmented piece resembling a chariot or cart. The dark pieces include two pieces carved with specific detailing, possibly representing specialized units. The set appears to be of mid-20th-century or earlier manufacture.
