Another Great Auction 29th January
A pair of matching East Asian-style guardian lion statues, commonly known as Fu Dogs or Shishi, designed for use as entrance or garden statuary. The figures are executed in a light gray composite stone or concrete material. Each statue stands upon a rectangular plinth featuring stylized geometric and foliate relief carving. The figures exhibit highly stylized, snarling faces, open mouths, and heavily scrolled manes. The figure on the viewer’s left clutches a sphere (brocade ball) beneath its paw, consistent with traditional pairing conventions. The figures are substantial in size, intended for outdoor placement. No manufacturer markings or inscriptions are visible.
