Another Great Auction 29th January
A sterling silver commemorative medal featuring a reproduction of Leonardo da Vinci’s Study for the Head of Leda. The obverse depicts a profile portrait of a woman with braided and coiled hair in the Renaissance style. The reverse features an intricate interlaced knotwork pattern surrounding a central circular seal inscribed ACADEMIA LEONARDI VINCI around the word VICI. The border is inscribed STUDY FOR THE HEAD OF LEDA and c. 1508. The piece is marked with a JP monogram on both faces. British hallmarks are present on the reverse field near the edge, including the lion passant for sterling silver and a leopard’s head for the London Assay Office.
