A fine porcelain lidded tankard produced by Davenport Pottery Co. Ltd. as part of The Golden Age of Steam collection. Titled The Flying Scotsman, the piece features artwork by Paul Gribble. The cylindrical porcelain body displays a wrap-around pictorial transfer print of a landscape scene with a locomotive, including a central plaque inscribed Flying Scotsman. The vessel is finished with gilt banding at the rim and foot. It is equipped with an embossed metal lid featuring a decorative thumb-lever and floral motifs. The underside bears the official maker’s mark from Stoke-on-Trent, England, and identifies this as tankard number 1914 from an edition strictly limited to a maximum of 25 firing days.
