Another Great Auction 29th January
A Davenport Pottery Co. Ltd. lidded porcelain tankard from The Golden Age of Steam collection featuring artwork by Paul Gribble titled The Royal Scot. The cylindrical white porcelain body displays a wrap-around pictorial scene of the steam locomotive within a landscape, bordered by thin gold-toned bands at the rim and base. The vessel is fitted with a hinged, domed metal lid featuring embossed foliate patterns and an ornate thumb lift. The underside bears a comprehensive backstamp identifying the piece as tankard number 411 from a limited edition produced in Stoke-on-Trent, England. The backstamp further indicates the edition was strictly limited to a maximum of 25 firing days.
