Another Great Auction 12th February
A Chinese rectangular lidded box featuring a green hardstone-style exterior with polychrome enameled decoration. The lid depicts a scene of children playing in a garden landscape, accompanied by a small red seal mark. The box is reinforced with metal mounts, including four ornate butterfly-shaped corner pieces and a dragon-form clasp. The side panels are decorated with stylized floral motifs on a black ground. The interior is lined with porcelain featuring blue-and-white underglaze decoration; the bottom displays a landscape scene, while the underside of the lid depicts an erotic interior scene with figures.
Measurements: 3 inches square
Condition report:
The box displays signs of age-appropriate wear, including minor surface scuffing and scratches to the enameled panels. There is visible oxidation and tarnish to the metal hardware. The interior porcelain shows some surface staining and minor firing imperfections consistent with manufacture.
