Another Great Auction 12th February
This rectangular box is constructed with straw-work parquetry in a geometric basketweave pattern using natural and dyed straw. The interior contains a removable divided tray and several decoupage panels featuring hand-colored engravings and French inscriptions. One panel includes the text Volez, tendres Zephirs, Annoncez mes desirs, and another depicts a figure by a barrel with the text Cest une double gloire Daimer et de bien boire. A small rectangular mirror is set into an interior compartment. The exterior and interior surfaces are finished with variegated straw veneer forming decorative borders.
