Another Great Auction 12th February
A collection of British bi-metallic two-pound (£2) coins featuring various commemorative and definitive designs from the early 21st century. The group includes commemorative issues honoring the XVII Commonwealth Games 2002, the centenary of Florence Nightingale (1820-1910), the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns (1759-1796), and the bicentenary of Charles Dickens, as well as a 2016 Britannia definitive issue. Each coin is constructed with a nickel-brass outer ring and a cupro-nickel center. The obverse faces depict portraits of Queen Elizabeth II with Latin inscriptions including ELIZABETH II DEI GRA REG FID DEF, which translates to Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith. The reverse designs include the Northern Ireland variant of the 2002 Commonwealth Games series, a stylized representation of a pulse for Florence Nightingale, handwritten lyrics for Robert Burns, a typographic portrait for Charles Dickens, and the standing figure of Britannia.
