Another Great Auction 12th February
A pair of framed monochrome prints depicting notable early 19th-century bare-knuckle pugilists. The first print features Henry Pearce, referred to as The Game Chicken, commemorating his 1805 fight against Jem Belcher. The inscription indicates it was drawn from nature by Wm Hobday and engraved by J. Whessell and T. Medland, with a dedication to John Halliday Esq. The second print depicts John Gully, commemorating his victory over Gregson at Newmarket in 1807, with a dedication to Major Hanley Waters. Both works are presented in matching gold-toned molded frames under glass.
